I went out to buy a copy of this book as soon as I was made aware of it. As the title suggests, it is a mostly pictorial record of Perth, Scotland over the last couple of centuries. The chapters are named: Early History; Rivers, Bridges & Floods; Road & Rail; Trade & Industry; Daily Life; Leisure and finally Regiments & Wars. Each chapter has a couple of pages of informative text followed by pages of pictures (which are all monochrome) with captions. The quality and variety of pictures is excellent and is certainly not the "here is street x, here is street y" type of pictures. There are many picures of people at work and pictures of events such as royal visits etc through the years etc. I have a few other books on Perth and 99 percent of the pictures in this book are ones I haven't seen before. I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Perth's history or just wants another nostalgic look at the many buildings gone and streets changed forever.
