4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference work that should be on your shelf, 5 Feb 2001
MTB's are always remembered, along with their US PT cousins as very dashing and romantic vehicles of war and in some respects they were. Small boats with young officers and crew, authority viewed them with a distrustful air, but if it hadn't been for the shallow water navy, the outcome of the war at sea may have been very different.

This book by L.C Reynolds is a wonderful compliment to his other books published recently that deal with MTB and MGB operations by the Royal Navy in World War Two. I had previously read a paperback of his published in 1955 which was a biographical telling of his own experiences on MGB 658, a dog boat in the med.

These excellent books look at the background specifics of MTB operations while Mr reynolds own book MGB 658 deals with the more personal viewpoint from a single boat and a single crew.

Mediterranean MTB's at War is packed with some excellent pictorial source material and some personal accounts to fill out the more stark telling of operations, putting a human face on this tense period of the war.

For modellers and historians alike, there is plenty of source detail to sink their teeth into for these small fast boats, that waged war at a very personal level.

5.0 out of 5 stars MTBs at War, 21 Jul 2009

Having had a father and uncle serving in MTBs in the Med. during WW2, I was particularly keen to see what detail this book might provide. It is excellent and details many actions by the various Flotillas with first person contributions. I am writing a family history and it has been been quoted extensively in the section on my dad's WW2 experiences. Good collection of pictures and written in an historical but easy to read style.
