Product Description
Synopsis
This illustrated history of Heathrow tells the story of the district from the earliest times, recalling the earliest recorded human activity in the area over 2000 years ago and showing the district's slow development from medieval times. It also looks at the controversy surrounding the building of the airport and the obliteration of the landscape of farmhouses, cottages, fields and gardens by hangars, runways and hotels. The impact of the airport's continuous development upon the lives of the local people is explored.

From the Author
The full title is "Heathrow : 2000 Years of History"
The book tells the extraordinary story of the Heathrow District from the distant past to the present day. It describes how in the 50 years since the Second World war, the isolated hamlet of Heathrow which was surrounded by fields and market gardens, was transformed into the largest international airport in Europe. It also considers in detail the controversial decision that was taken in 1944 to construct the airport

5.0 out of 5 stars Heathrow Exposed, 25 Sep 2000
By dave@dalintober.org.uk (Longford, Middlesex, England) - See all my reviews
In this book, Mr Sherwood uncovers the deceit behind the construction of Heathrow Airport. He then seeks to warn the reader of the unending desire on the part of the authorities for land and property to continually feed the airport. Mr Sherwood points to plans made in the past for the growth of the airport, comparing them to the actuality we have today. This is a fascinating and frightening book for anyone with an interest in opposing further growth of the airport.
