Product Description

Review
"The book is an overview of sports injuries. The main aim is to provide a working knowledge of sports injuries to students and newly qualified physiotherapists, and to act as a memory jogger for the more experienced clinician.
...the book is well illustrated and tabulated. There is a list of references at the end of each chapter for those who wish to investigate further. The book is easy to read and is very logical in its layout. book provides a basic introductory text on sports injuries. It is ambitious in its remit, as it attempts to cover in less than 500 pages a wide range of topics both directly and indirectly related to sports medicine.... the subsections on management and rehabilitation following injury are useful and clearly presented."British Journal of Sports Medicine, 33: 289, January 1999
author has a user friendly writing style and the layout of the book is ideal for reference...I would recommend it to physiotherapists interested in or actively involved in treating sports people."Physiotherapy in Sport, February 1994
book provides a good basic reference for undergraduates or postgraduates just becoming involved in sports medicine. It is clearly written and well organised with easy to find points of reference."Physiotherapy, April 1996

By A Customer
The book is an excellent resource for anyone interested in sports injuries or doing a medical course such as podiatry or physio but it is also explained well enough so as the general public could use it.The book explains the biomechanical causes of injuries which is very useful as i'm training to become a podiatrist The auther goes into heat and ice traetment s first aid and also rehab such as strength training and goes into the basic principles. An all roung good text

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful book - but not for diagnosis!, 18 Dec 2004
By A Customer
This is a well-written and concise book that is well-illustrated and contains a lot of info not in most sport injury books. With clear illustrations and photos, this book makes a good reference for sports therapists, physios, etc. The only complaint I have about the book is the layout. The book is written in 2 setions: (1) Diagnosis and (2) Management. Both sections contain lots of interesting and useful info but the contents of the Diagnosis section seem completely irrelevant. For example, what does "healing", "sports massage" and "taping" have to do with diagnosing an injury? As I have an exam on The Definitions & Diagnosis of Injury, I bought this book specifically for the Diagnosis section, but have not found it useful for diagnosis at all. The book should really be called "Sports Injuries - Prevention and Management"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Buys, 21 April 2009
By J. Leorke (Australia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Excellent book with informative, concise, detailed and specific content relative to the sports professional whether they are an athlete, coach or trainer. Book is light enough to take with you for those unexpected occasions you may need to utilise the information unlike a lot of other sports related books. Diagrams and explanations easily understood. In looking at value for money you cannot go passed this book it will supply you with all the information you need.
