Product Description

Review

"'It will make practical PIC applications available to a wider, less specialised audience.. Very thoughtful, careful use of language... Excellent selection of examples in terms of range and complexity... Given the rapidly expanding application of PICs, partiularly in education, there will be a need for books like this.' Paul Wareing, University of Wolverhampton.

Product Description

The book can be used at a variety of levels. While the carefully graded practicals make it ideal for colleges and schools, many university students and professionals are also newcomers to PIC, so this book will provide a painless introduction for more advanced readers. In addition, electronics hobbyists will find this book to be an exciting introduction to the world of microcontrollers.

4.0 out of 5 stars a very good place to start, 8 Mar 2003
By J.Hodgson (london) - See all my reviews
Having previously attempted Myke Predko's book, this book was a revelation. VERY easy to follow and pick up concepts from. I also have John Morton's book which probably has slightly better depth, but PIC in Practice scores highly in using mostly the 16F84 flash programmable chip making it quick to write over errors or to make small alterations in examples to examine the effects.

4.0 out of 5 stars second edition please..., 19 Oct 2005
By A Customer
about the third PIC book i bought, and definately the best! this book manages to cover more ground than many books twice the thickness (naming no names...)Some very clear explanations, and an easy introduction for beginners which encourages experimentation with assembly language (scary for newbies!)no fancy PC/hardware setup is required even one of the 'six bits and a socket' programmers will suffice,my original setup cost around £2.The book (as does any technology title)shows it's age, though it was upto date when published it could do with a refresh to cover later PIC's; this said it is a WHOLE lot more upto-date than the two other british paperbacks. If i had to choose which book to recommend to someone keen to learn about PIC micro's ON ANY BUDGET it would be this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 23 Jun 2003
The author of this book is one of my lecturers at Manchester Metropolitan university and I can honestly say that the book is excellent at communicating the knowledge required in programming PIC microchips it is also an extremely useful reference book and offers plenty of examples with clear descriptions of how the codes function and how they can be implemented into projects the book was essential in me passing the electronics unit of my second unit at uni.
