Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Handheld and palm-sized PCs have been around for some time but it is difficult sometimes to quickly grasp how they work and to decide whether or not they are worth buying. In his highly informative book, Windows CE Made Simple, Craig Peacock clearly explains all the features of the Microsoft operating system which runs on both handheld and palm-sized PCs.

Windows CE has the look and feel of Windows 95 or 98 but it is also has some interesting features of its own. This book explains all the tools that are available so you can customise your new mobile computer to meet your particular needs. Peacock shows you how to get online with Windows CE and how to send and receive e-mail. He covers other basic requirements like editing and formatting, managing documents and how to install software packages.

Windows CE Made Simple is well organised and easy to follow. It concisely illustrates and talks you through all the standard Microsoft applications supplied on handheld and palm-size PCs including the voice recorder and the functions of the calendar which enables users to create, delete and move appointments. It isn't completely Microsoft-orientated, however, and addresses some third party software like maps to help travellers find their way around foreign cities. Surprisingly there are no spreadsheet applications supplied as standard on the Palm-size PC, but the book usefully points you to the Web sites of companies that have written applications for these devices. With this book in your hand, those considering a purchase will be in a better position to judge whether or not it is time to make a change from their traditional PC.--Justin Hunt

1.0 out of 5 stars Windows CE made simple? too simple, 5 May 2001
By cmitch@waitrose.com (Royston, Herts, UK.) - See all my reviews
This book is obviously aimed at first itme users, unfortunately it is far too simple in it's content to be of any real use for most handheld/palm/pocket PC users. The actual form in the book is less than you will get in the Help files supplied with your handheld PC. It will prove to be a bit of a dissapointment to the majority of people purchasing this book who have not had the chance to have a cursory look through it's content first.
