5.0 out of 5 stars Necessary Reading, 20 Nov 2008

This book is as relevant now as it was nearly thirty years ago for anyone aspiring to working in psychotherapy. I consider David Malan to be iconic in the evolution of psychotherapy; counsellors, psychotherapists, students alike ignore him at their peril! Via many interesting and illuminating casework examples linked to theory, the book offers basic principles which underpin the whole concept of psychotherapy. Beautifully written and easily absorbed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading, 20 May 2009
By Ms. N. Thomas "Toots" (Surrey, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a first year traineee, I wish this had been on our booklist. Whilst I suspect all psychodynamic trainees will cover the Malan triangles, this book is so much more. Even if you don't plan on doing time limited work, having a clear structure and approach is a great starting point, and the early chapters are useful for everone. The examples from clients are really useful and aid the clarity. This book is clearly written, I found it hard to put down, and have re-read it several times.
