Product Description

Review
Who really knows the truth about any marriage? What secrets lurk behind the apparent security of the suburban net curtains, what horrors lie in wait behind the bedroom door? Robin Allebury, wealthy lawyer with an altruistic streak, is on a mission - a mission to help those women for whom there appears to be no escape. His clients long to cast off the shackles of their loveless marriages and start afresh - but Robin knows, that even if they can cast off their husbands without a second thought, there are always the children to consider.... Lynne Bolsover turned to Robin, but his help came too late. Her body is discovered, battered and abused, surely the victim of her callous husband. But D I Shipley can't shake off her hunch that there is something suspicious about the case - Bolsover was indeed a bully, but it seems only too easy to pin his wife's murder on him. Joanne Patston and her husband, Tony, are ecstatic when they finally get the adopted child they have craved for - baby Irina, a dark-eyed, beautiful Romanian orphan, is the answer to their prayers. In their joy, it is only too easy to forget the corners they cut in the adoption process, the dark secrets about Tony's past which were conveniently swept under the carpet. But when Irina starts to become difficult and Tony's legendary temper begins to get the better of him, Joanne is put in an impossible position - tell the truth and risk losing Irina, or turn for help to the enigmatic Mr Allebury, the lawyer with the smooth voice and the kind brown eyes? Lizzie Piper is the envy of every other woman she knows - wealthy, happy, married to a gorgeous, considerate husband, her only cross is the burden of looking after their son, Jake, who has muscular dystrophy. But even Lizzie's closest friends are not privy to the dreadful things which happen once the bedroom doors are closed. Its seems that only Robin Allebury, with his sensitivity and his unfailing talent for homing in on a domestic crisis, can come to her rescue, can help her find a way out, when there appears to be no escape. Norman keeps her readers on the edge of their seats right until the last pages of this compelling novel. Preconceptions are shattered; places of safety are blasted wide open, as Norman drags all the horrors of abusive relationships into the harsh light of day - only to utterly confound the reader's expectations when the true culprit is revealed. 4.0 out of 5 stars Rattling good read, 9 Feb 2004
By A Customer
A dead body on page one and more red herrings than a Russian trawler this had me gripped from the very start. A real page turner with some genuinely scary moments backed up by a real depth of research and accurate locations, this won't let you put it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Chilling tale of murder, 13 Aug 2007

Not for the faint hearted, Norman's story of domestic violence perpetrated by men and covered up by ashamed women is all too believable and chilling to say the least.

This is the first novel written by Norman that I have read and I certainly wasn't disappointed. There are enough shocks and scares to keep you engrossed in this novel and a few twists along the way as well.

Certainly worth a read, although you might feel a little depressed by the end! A far superior novel to many written in a similar vein.

What a fantastic writer.
I am driving my local library mad trying to get all Hilary Norman's other books. I could not put it down.
I read NO ESCAPE in one day.
