Review
'Anna Cheska has a charming writing style and creates warm, believable characters' Katie Fforde

Anna Cheska has already gained herself a loyal following for her two earlier romantic novels, Moving to the Country and Drop Dead Gorgeous. This is another entertaining rite-of-passage tale, in which all the leading characters suffer emotional turmoil and doubt before ending up with their ideal partner in the last few pages. Suzi senses that her life is due for a change: her 40th birthday is looming, she is becoming disillusioned with her long-standing, long-distance lover Michael and her antiques business is in dire financial straits. She watches in dismay as the relationship between her beloved brother and best friend Estelle heads for the rocks, not realizing that her own affair has reached crisis point. Michael has also decided it's time for a change, so he throws in his job to become a pub musician and moves to Pridehaven to live with Suzi. She is aghast at the prospect of losing her independence, and realizes that she really doesn't want to share her cosy little cottage with anyone. Much of the action of this delightful novel centres on Chestnut Grove Tennis Club, where partnerships both sporting and sexual appear to be in a constant state of flux. As the players take turn and turn about in their singles, double and mixed doubles matches, so the various couples move apart and regroup. The quandaries of the lovers form the basis of Anna Cheska's charming story - there are additional plotlines concerning the business problems of the antique shop and controversy at the tennis club, but Cheska is more concerned in getting her characters matched up with Miss or Mr Right by the end of the novel. There are shady dealings and a touch of menace, but no violence, and the 'rough' children who join the tennis club naturally turn out to have hearts of gold. The one serious element, the death of Estelle's mother, is dealt with in a few sentences. Hearts are broken but mended quickly with no apparent long-lasting effects, yet even though a happy ending is always on the cards, this in no way detracts from the enjoyment. This is definitely a book to add to any holiday packing - an ideal read for those long hot days on the beach. (Kirkus UK)

Product Description
Game, set and mis-matched? As she gets to grips with turning forty, Suzi's more than happy to have settled for a part-time lover rather than a full-time husband. She relishes her independence and, what with the constant battle to keep her business afloat and acting as matchmaker for her brother and her best friend, her life is busy enough. She knows that boyfriend Michael isn't so much Mr Right as Mr Right Now. So she's baffled by his decision to give up his job to become a musician. And terrified by the news that he's expecting to move in with her...At least down at her local tennis club Suzi can leave her troubles behind her. In fact, she can't help but feel that life would be so much simpler if it were played like mixed doubles: with set rules, someone to keep score, and where changing partners is all too easy...
