Product Description

Bump number one - Just when Taz Norton's life is on a smooth upward glide - youngest sales manager at a flagship department store, own flat, cat and vintage motorbike - her lover leaves her for her ex-best friend. Bump number two - is finding out she is pregnant the same day she is asked to handle the biggest store promotion in the company's history. Bump number three - is the one in front of her. Goodbye toes and glamour, hello heartburn, morning sickness and support tights. Typically, Taz decides to be Superwoman. No one is going to tell her she can't get to the top and be a single mum as well. But no one told her it was going to be so damned hard...

About the Author

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Pregnancy Reading!, 12 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Being four months pregnant myself, I found it so refreshing to read a novel about the ups and downs, written with such humour and insight. I literally laughed and cried, and felt every joy and pain along with Taz.

The personal relationships which Taz built through the book reflect those that we all build - from the everlasting to the casual and transient. Not forgetting of course all the trials and tribulations of being part of a family, and having a mother who knows best!

All in all an excellent read, I would recommend to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Pregnant Woman's Guide to Managing Your Career, 23 May 2000
Thank goodness for Zoe Barnes! An intelligent and assertive career driven young woman, Taz, is the protagonist of this fantastic novel. Taz is dumped by her boyfriend who is having an affair with her flat mate, and then discovers she is pregnant.

The novel was fresh and exciting because of the descriptions of Taz's career in RETAIL! Not journalism or publishing. Thank you Zoe Barnes for realising we aren't all in journalism working for a women's magazine. But readers have ordinary lives. This was great as I could relate to the competition, and understand the problems experienced by Taz in a cut throat organisation.

My favourite character was Mandy who was not a stereotype problem teenager, but conveyed the hardships experienced in a poor neighbourhood. I hope that the author takes "Mandy" on to adulthood and gives us further insight into this intelligent, hard working and determined young mother.

Bumps was a fascinating page turner. I sat on the settee and read all weekend until I had finished. And I've been won over, and I shall definitely read "Hitched" and "Hot Property".

5.0 out of 5 stars Motherhood and a career - terrific book!, 7 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Bumps (Hardcover)
Take a bow Zoe Barnes for having successfully captured the angst and joy of juggling motherhood and a career. The writing is wry and clever and winsome. This is a thoroughly delightful read and upon completion I promptly bought copies of everything else Zoe Barnes has written. She ranks right up there with Madeleine Wickham, Catherine Alliot, Marion Keyes, and Jill Mansell!

BUMPS is highly recommended by this reader!

I did enjoy this book and as a mum myself could identify with alot (but not everything) that she said, its a great escapism book with some touching moments in there.
