Product Description

Product Description

This work explores the evidence that supports the claim that Atlantis was a real continent with a cultured society able to build great cities, mine and use metal, grow crops and brew wine, inscribe written records, build shiips and sail the oceans to the farthest corners of the earth.

From the Author

Why A Disbeliever Changed His Mind About Atlantis
I was never a believer in Atlantis before I started researching prehistory for another book entirely (Martian Genesis). It quickly became clear there was something badly wrong with the orthodox picture of prehistory as a linear progression from the primitive to the sophisticated. By the time I had finished writing Martian Genesis, I was convinced there had been a lost prehistoric civilisation. But was this civilisation the fabled Atlantis? I frankly doubted it since I could find no geological mechanism that could sink a whole continent -- a small volcanic island perhaps, but nothing remotely approaching the classical description of Atlantis. All the same, I thought it worthwhile to carry out some research into the Atlantis myth directly. What I discovered changed my mind completely about this whole area. I've now become a 'believer' in Atlantis. I think I know how it was destroyed and why hard archaeological evidence of its existence is now rare. But if archaeological evidence is rare, the same cannot be said for other evidence ... if you know where to look. That's what The Atlantis Enigma is all about. It was exciting to write. I hope you find it equally exciting to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating look into the theory of Atlantis, 16 May 2001
This review is from: The Atlantis Enigma (Paperback)
This is a well thought out and highly detailed hypothesis on Atlantis. The author makes a convincing argument for the existence of this fabled lost continent and challenges the accepted theories put forward by the scientific community. If you have an open mind and an interest in this sort of subject, then this book is a must. I can only congratulate Herbie Brennan on a fine piece of work - I have read and re-read this book numerous times, and enjoyed it every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only a book for believers/non-believers in Atlantis..., 19 Jan 2000
By A Customer
there's far more to this book than simply the issue of whether or not Atlantis existed. It reveals a different and too me a far more logical explanation to some our ancestors superior knowledge. I have always had a feeling that there's been more advanced cultures further back in the history of man, and Brennan's explanation doesn't need to bring in Aliens to explain this. A thoroughly well-written book that makes you think unless you're afraid to...I wish it were longer, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Addresses Plato's tales in an interesting way - Original, 1 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This book starts off looking at the Plato's description of Atlantis, then goes into diverse theories about how each point in Plato's texts could have happened. It re-dates the ice-age, and explains a shift in the Earths axis, with the associated devastation. To the layman it could make some sense if taken as read, but a friend who is a geography teacher says it couldn't be - Is this just an un-willingness to accept something other than what the text books say, or is Herbie making it up as he goes? Some interesting theories.
