Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
In Detox Your Mind, the sequel to her bestselling Detox Your Body, Scrivner tackles our cerebral wellbeing, with a 30-day programme of positive doing and thinking. The aim, she states, is to completely cleanse the mind and rid ourselves of such habitual traits as low self-esteem, negative thinking and mental lethargy.

The 30-day programme is structured around 30 tasks--one task to be completed each day. There is a strict order and reason behind each of the activities, so it is important to plan ahead: preparation is the key, we are told, for what is to be a real challenge.

The task directory is an eclectic collection of simple and strenuous--both mentally and physically. From the obvious "smiling" and "finding some personal time" tasks in week one, there is progression to more taxing (and practical) heights, including a "perceived risk taking" task--doing something never normally dreamt of, and a "teaching an old dog new tricks" task--doing something hitherto considered impossible.

However difficult or uncomfortable the tasks may seem, the onus throughout is on reflection and learning, and on the positive feelings the completed tasks give (keeping a diary is encouraged to articulate our emotions and follow our mental equilibrium as the programme progresses). By Day 30, the author claims, we will have learnt to maintain a clear head, take more risks, be more creative and mentally agile and begin planning for the future and the present.

However pseudo-psychological this book may appear to some, it's certainly an interestingly practical approach to taking control of our own self-image. Whether all tasks are completed is questionable, but it does underline the benefits of taking the time out to realise personal achievement is attainable, if only we believe it. --Abi Frisby

Synopsis
This text aims to show the reader how to stay mentally fit and healthy despite the stresses and strains of a modern lifestyle. In order to keep mind and body together people need to do just as much for their heads as for their hearts. The book is a step-by-step guide to hundreds of ways that the reader can clean out, refresh and revitalise the very corners of the mind so that it works as efficiently as possible. The book includes a self-assessment questionnaire, mind games and exercises, meditation, positive thinking, reflexology, cranial sacral therapy, aromatherapy and tai chi. There is also a section on techniques for stress management and advice on nutrition and foods that aim to keep the reader more mentally efficient.
