This book is a very practical guide to the chakras - energy centres in the body. It is easy to read and easy to use for westerners who may not know very much about the chakra system which I believe started in India thousands of years ago.It basically shows how connecting with your chakras enables growth, healing and balance to take place in each area of you - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Ruth White explains that much chakra work can be carried out by yourself at home. By connecting with your chakras through exercises, visualisations and meditations you can glean many insights into your own being. Strengths, gifts and abilities will, she assures the reader, begin to emerge. There is a very good diagram of the 7 best known chakras and how energy flows from positive to negative and up and down the central column. Each chakra has its own chapter with its associated colours, element, glandular connection, quieting fragrances, stimulating fragrances, crystals and gemstones etc. Ruth White also describes guided, visual meditations for each chakra. However, I prefer simply to use my normal breathing meditation where I concentrate on simply being aware of my breath. When my mind wanders - as it does - and I realise, then I simply return my awareness back to my breathing and feeling the air going into my nose and back out again. With practice this really does work to bring about a state of relaxed meditation. If you are spiritually-minded and interested in learning more about the chakra system then you may enjoy reading this book, as I have.
