4.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking, 4 Oct 2002
This review is from: Death or Glory Boys (Paperback)
Terrorism might seem to be a weighty topic in a book so short, but it's well worth reading.

The book centres around Cal, a lone terrorist, and the reactions of four friends to Cal's bombs. After a recruitment drive by the army, the four teenagers decide to take part in an army short course, where they're forced to examine their beliefs concerning war and violence.
Their different beliefs waver and conflict with each other, making for a very interesting book.

Although the story lurches from deep to shallow, this tends to be a positive part of the storytelling. Cal's notes and thought processes are interesting, although most of the book is devoted to the teenagers - particularly Sarah, a girl considering a career as a soldier.

The characters don't always ring true but there are some good points raised in the book, and despite the subject matter it contains some funny moments. It's aimed at young adults.

The death or Glory boys is a really good book. She really captures the personalities of the Characters. I would really reccomend this book. A girl decides to join the IRA and if you want to know what happened to her then read this good book.
