This is an unexpected pleasure. I picked up a copy of this book as a present for a friend. When I opened it, I decided to keep it for myself. I bought it for the pictures, which are brilliant and evoke so many memories of travelling in France. However, the words are what make this more than just another coffee table book. The author is obviously very much in love with France, and with its people. He includes descriptions of journeys through the regions of France, the simple pleasures of sitting at a cafe table and watching the world go by and buying, tasting and drooling over food. This paints even more vivid pictures in my memory
