My two year old son is obsessed by birds. We wanted something educational, sturdy and simple that allow him to learn as he plays, and this kit does just the job. It contains a bird feeder, a pair of sturdy binoculars, a cd of bird noises, a spotting chart and an easy book with colourful illustrations and details.

The binoculars are not particularly professional, but just right for a child starting out. They are just the right size for small hands and allow exploration of basic functionality without having to worry about issues of needing fine motor control or smashing them.

The bird feeder is a really nice touch. You need to get your own supply of seed to fill it, and if you are buying it as a gift and don't want disappointment it's good to be prepared for this. Otherwise a top notch starter kit, nicely boxed and presented and a really lovely gift idea.
