I love 'em!, 13 Jun 2000

Guide books have a pretty tough time of it. Read the reviews of the Malta Cadogan Guide. As for this one, well, there's even less information that would cause the business traveller to salivate. It's got an "Essential Facts" section at the rear, which gives the resourceful tourist enough of a kick start. Computers...tsk!I love the "AA Essential" series for three main reasons. First, they sum up recommended attractions in a concise manner. Sure, there's not a great deal of detail, but if you want more, the publications on sale locally, usually fill that gap. Second, it fits neatly into my shorts pocket. I can wander around without continually rumaging around in a bag for the guide book. Or worse still, asking my wife to rumage around in her bag! Finally, and for me, most importantly, they have never let me down with a recommended restaurant. This is luck, it has to be. Restaurants are erratic and guides must be out of date to a degree. Despite this, the AA guides have steered me to gems that lurk amongst the picture-book-menu establishments that seem to flourish in most holiday resorts. For that alone, they receive my wholehearted thumbs up.
