From the Back Cover
Despite the complicated political and economic nature of Serbia and Montenegro, they present many good opportunities for investment and business development.
Mismanagement in the 1990s under the former regime, drawn-out economic sanctions and the war in Kosovo all contributed to diminishing the economies of Serbia and Montenegro. But since 2000, several measures have been taken to stabilize both economies and an active market reform programme is now well under way. In fact in 2002 the EBRDs Transition Report rated Serbia as the number one transition economy, and substantial growth of 4.5 per cent was predicted for 2003.
On the borders of the expanded EU, Serbia and Montenegro are positioned to serve as a natural logistic link between South Eastern, Central and Western Europe. The combined local market of 10 million people is well educated and aspiring. With the coming creation of the Southeast Europe (SEE) free trade area businesses and investors based in Serbia and Montenegro will have easy access to a market of 60 million people. Additionally, Serbia is the only country outside the CIS that has a free trade agreement with Russia and its 150 million market.
Doing Business with Serbia & Montenegro provides an authoritative appraisal of the new economic and investment climate, an update on market potential in the key sectors, and unique best practice advice on all aspects of investing in or trading with Serbia and Montenegro.
