5.0 out of 5 stars sounds like a text book???, 8 Feb 2001
this book is really informative without making it sound like a formal text book. At first i wasnt sure if a career in the police was suitable for me but now i am sure, thanks to this jem of a book. I would suggest this book for anyone who is unsure about a career in the police

2.0 out of 5 stars Fairly Basic, 29 April 2002
Books gives a fairly basic overview of different Police departments and Police work. From the Synopsis I was expecting gritty Police stories, crimes and internal politics but it was a fairly dry overview Police departments.

If your interested in joining the Police and have no idea about what the various departments do then buy it. If your interested in joining the Police and done your research from the Web and other home office literature then don't.

3.0 out of 5 stars Much the same as the previous reviewer, 3 April 2003
If you were thinking of applying to the police, much of the stuff in this book is just a repeat of things you can read on the internet and through TV programs. There are however quite a few case studies of current officers which are quite interesting. I would recommend this book to anybody who has no idea as to which career path to take and wants a good overall picture, however if you are a potential recruit looking for more details, look elsewhere. I also managed to find this book in my local library which saved me buying it, I would recommend looking there first before parting with your cash.
