Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Freya North has a startling talent to amuse, and in Polly that talent--first spotted in the divine Chloe and Sally --is given free and unfettered reign, as she recounts the story of her latest heroine and her search for truth, love and fulfilment.

When Polly heads off to Vermont leaving her flat in Belsize Park, her fat cat Buster and her yummy boyfriend Max in the hands of Jen Carter, her long-legged teacher's exchange partner for the year, you just know that things are going to go wrong.

But clever old North manages to keep the suspense building alongside the lust, as Polly's life and beliefs are unravelled before your very eyes, and by using the very smart and sneaky technique of turning the reader into the narrator, the questions that are on the tip of everyone's tongue (as opposed to Chip Jonson, the school athletic trainer, who spends quite a lot of time on the tip of Polly's tongue) are fully dealt with.

Saucy, sexy and sassy, with some of the horniest, to-die-for sex scenes around, Polly is gem of a book and will appeal to the old romantic hidden in every girl.

Read it in the bath, read it in bed, read it on the train or read it on the beach. Just read it and enjoy.--Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, frustrating and weak, 18 May 2000
By A Customer
This is the fist Freya North novel I have read and it does not inspire me to read the others. The main character, Polly irritated me. The constant mention of Marmite every other page started to get on my nerves and to be honest it was slow.

I normally read a book in a week or so but it was hard to keep picking this one up.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is on my favorites list!!, 22 May 1999
By A Customer
I really enjoyed this book, I couldn't put it down and I read it in four days flat. It was the first book that I have read of North and it is not the last as today I purchased "chole" and I am already enjoying that. I purchased "polly" out of luck, and I am really glad that I did. The theme of this book is self-discovery, a woman called polly trades places with another woman called Jen for a year. For that year, Polly has to make a lot of decisions and she also has to fight tempations, while forgetting that her friends and family back home are most probably doing the same. This book has some wit and some reference to sex in it and I have to admit I cried in a few places. This book will stay on my bookshelf for many years to come! I will be reading more of North's books and I will be purchasing "Cat" as soon as it comes out in November.

4.0 out of 5 stars Witty and funny. A great light hearted read!, 2 Jul 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Polly (Paperback)
Previously I had read Chloe, so I was quite looking forward to reading Polly. Personally I have found Polly to be a far more enjoyable read. I love the way in which Freya identifies the language and also cultural differences between England and the USA and as I have visited the States a number of times myself I can really relate to them. All in all Polly is great read and the perfect book to pick up if you need cheering up.

I'm sure it's a taste thing, rather than a reflection of Freya North's writing skills, but I thought this book was rubbish. it annoyed me intensley. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Irritating
As other reviewers commented, Polly really is in irritating "heroine", babyish and full of little girl mannerisms that begin to jar after a few pages. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute Bilge
Polly needs a good slap and doesn't deserve a boyfriend in my opinion. Why are the heroines in Freya North's books all so idiotic? Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Rather disappointing but quite an easy read
Polly was OK. It was easy to read, it didn't require much thought or imagination. There were few surprises and the ending was pretty tiresome. Read more
