Book Description
I'm feeling topsy turvy/Is it love or is it scurvy? Nick and Bridget are back in their sixth comic adventure! Walking the plank seems like the sensible option when gentle journalist Nick Madrid’s foray into stunt work in a low-budget pirate movie finds him fighting for his life with modern-day pirates – motto: shoot first, you won’t need to ask questions later – and equally ruthless salvage divers intent on looting the sunken treasure ship of the notorious Captain Kidd. Nick is on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan working on Blackheart. It’s a musical film biography of the notorious, mass-murdering, raping and pillaging pirate Blackbeard and Nick is in it because his best friend in journalism, Bridget - The Bitch of the Broadsheets - Frost is having a fling with the (married) director. She has a bit part in the movie on account of the singing prowess she exhibited at – well, at a particularly intimate moment in their relationship – and Nick’s in because she thought he needed taking out of himself with massive amounts of sun, sand and stunt-work.
Unfortunately, Nick finds that being taken out of himself means encounters with the aforementioned pirates, with treasure hunters and with a host of dangerous watery creatures. Nick and Bridget were always suspicious of the frankly oddball cast for the movie. The impossible pairing of low budget with film-made-on-water should also have alerted them to the fact that their movie stardom ambitions are bound to flounder. With the movie deep sixing and the cast adrift, what our doughty duo can’t know is that in addition to all Nick’s other travails, he and Bridget are to be shipwrecked on an island with the sole surviving member of the gone horribly, horribly wrong Survivor-like TV game show, Cast Adrift. Cast Adrift is the brainchild of a mad and definitely paranoid TV producer who
