Review
"Gordon is an experienced writer, so what he says. . .should be taken seriously." -- Writer's Monthly

Product Description
Many writers overlook the business side of writing. Inspiration and creativity are the writer's starting point, but it takes business acumen and a professional attitude to do well in the race to bestsellerdom. In this book, the author offers detailed and helpful advice to all would-be professionals based on his own writing experience and is supported by contributions from other writers, agents and publishers. Wells considers: making the most of time and space; selling yourself and your work; how to present your work; publishers agreements and copyright; the tools of the trade; making contact with your buyers; keeping records and accounts; and other sources of potential income. A comprehensive glossary of writers' business terms and list of organisations useful to writers are also included.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellant guide to being a professional freelance writer, 11 Feb 2001
By A Customer
The Business of Writing is an excellant guide on how to become a professional freelance writer. It does NOT tell you how to write, but instead focusses on a very important aspect of freelance writing, which is, being business like. Writing the material is only half the work (if that!), the rest is shere salemanship. This books tells you how to look professional, how to act professional and how to sell professionally. It also suggest ways in promoting yourself as a writer and opening up new paying markets, that you may not have considered before. And this isn't just Gordon Well's view. By carefully including 'case studies' from other writers about their approach, he provides a convincing strategy on how to be taken seriously. This is a book I have read several times, and constantly dip into.
