4.0 out of 5 stars An interactive guide to joints written by an osteopath, 20 Dec 2001
By A Customer
I bought this book in conjunction with Kingston's other book 'Understanding Muscles' and have found it equally useful. It is a task based book which covers different joint groups eg. the elbow joint(s) through which a reader must work. This approach may not suit everyone but certainly means that learning is more effective. The anatomy of joints is clearly laid out and demystified eg. with reference to latin terms. If you have to learn anatomy to a practical end eg. a manual therapy and/or in preparation for exams, you will find this useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide to, well, understanding joints...!, 8 Nov 2005
Like a well-known brand of diy products, this book does exactly what it says on the tin; it works through the basics and generalities of arthrology and then takes the reader through specific joints, their structure, function, movements and muscles that produce them. It is possible to use as a quick reference guide without doing all of the study tasks, colouring in the diagrams etc., but it is in these that the book comes into its own, and is well worth the time. The only possible drawback is that the details of some of the attachments (especially ligamentous) are either patchy or missing altogether (I guess the authors considered them less important to the joints in question), which can be annoying if you are studying (for example) osteopathy, where precise attachments are a must; having said which, the only book that gets them all completely is Greys (the massive original, not Student Greys), and that's a mission to wade through... So this book is excellent still.
