5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, easy to use colouful textbook, 14 Sep 1999
By A Customer
This is a very good textbook, that has superceded his previous edition. It is much better, as the pages are better quality, there is colour on every page, and there are no longer any annoying 'cartoons.' This might have well have been a completely different book, as the set out is a 200% on the third edition. The text has not just been cut and pasted from the old edition, but the text is fresh and has up to date information about the recent advances in Computer Science. This book is definitely worth a look, and would be of great use to GCSE, A-Level, and Undergraduates as a study aid. It would even be of use for novices to the computer world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive text for those in many areas of education., 27 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This book contains comprehensive text for students studying Advanced Level, City in Guilds, BTEC,British Computer Society courses and also those doing PGCE ICT. It is however a little heavy going to read form cover to cover and although contains invaluable information can often feel a little heavy going. For those in such a situation I recommend that you also consult A Glossary of Computing Terms by the British Computer Society. Together these two books will improve your knowledge, skills and understanding of ICT.

3.0 out of 5 stars New Understanding, 3 Mar 2004
By A Customer
This book is very thick and very technical.

Bradley's writing is excellent, however he does have a tendency to hop around a point without actually saying it.

This book has no order and method to it with reference to current Computing syllabuses, and useful material is very hard to find. This book doesn't contain some material required for A Level Computing.

These are the three problems that wreck the book: lack of organisation, too much depth for A Level and too much irrelevent material for A Level that becomes confusing.

I would not recommend this book to people studying A Level Computing. Get the New Understanding: Study Guide also by Bradley - the better of the two books.

N.B. The best thing about this book is the glossary. If you have access to an online glossary, then this makes even this part of the book redundent.
