Product Description

Product Description

Eigg, one of the islands of the Inner Hebrides off the West coast of Scotland, has an interesting history. Following the ownership battle for the island in 1997, this text tells the story of Eigg, from its earliest inhabitants to the present, detailing its recently-acquired independence and community ownership. The book draws extensively on oral history from the islanders themselves and from local archives, with stories of clans, pastimes, wartime, childhood and crofting.

3.0 out of 5 stars very detailed historical summary, 20 Jan 1999
By A Customer
A very detailed historical summary with possibly a little too much detail of the distant past bearing in mind the problems since the second world war. Ironically written by a french woman living on Eigg.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brief summary of book through medium of Scottish Gaelic, 24 Jan 2001
By clanranald@ecosse.net (Isle of Skye, West of Scotland.) - See all my reviews
'Se leabhar gu math inntinneach a th'ann an-seo. 'Se bàna-Fhraingeach a th'innte Camille Dressler ged a bha i a' fuireach tòrr bliadhnachean 'san Eilean. Thug muinntir an eilein fhèin tòrr eòlais dhi nuair a bha i 'ga sgrìobhadh agus mar sin tha an leabhar aice làn le eachdraidh, dualchas, sgeulachdan agus tradiseanta an eilein. Rinn Dressler a gnòthaich leis an leabhar seo agus ma tha ùidh agaibh idir 'sna h-Eileanan beaga feumaidh sibh a cheannaich.
