4.0 out of 5 stars It's definitely a good introduction..., 20 April 2004
I purchased this book as part of my course in Usability Evaluation atuniversity despite it not being one of the recommended texts. The bookclaims to be aimed at university students and those entering the world ofusability for the first time and I would agree that that it is about right- the information is presented in a form that easy to read both cover tocover and to dip in and out off. Different methods and ideas areregularly backed up by real world examples, both in and outwith the fieldof computing, helping to convey understanding and show the practical sideof this subject, outwith the lecture hall. A nice feature of the book isthat at the end of chapters describing a new concept, a concise summary isgiven - useful for both revision and getting a quick feel for thechapter's contents. The only real downside of this book for me personallywas that there is no mention of the different types of varibiables(independent, dependent, etc) or t-tests which were key topics in mycourse. Finally it is worth noting again the title of this book, as itreally is only a introduction to usability, concentrating very much on thetheoretical side and readers planning to carry out an actual evaulationstudy should look elsewhere.
