Product Description

Product Description

Spoons have been made ever since man discovered that handling liquids was vital to his existence. This book traces and illustrates the history of English spoons, and gives collectors some guidelines to follow. In this second edition the author has expanded the section on the British Arts and Crafts Movement, examining its contribution to European design at the turn of the nineteenth century, and showing how this influence was revisited on British design in the following decades.

About the Author

Simon Moore has been interested in antique eating cutlery since the late 1960s. A study of folding fruit knives began with a gift from a friend and led to a wider interest, encompassing first spoons and then knives and forks. He is currently researching the origins or the influences on twentieth-century and later spoon designs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spoons 1650-2000 (Shire Album) A Grandad's Review, 19 Jun 2009
Having purchased this book, I found it to be useful but not universal in its content. I have a number of 1950's Silver spoons which have marks that are not shown in this book. It is interesting and a credible companion but can not be used as all things "spoon". Well priced and delivered in good time.
