Product Description

Product Description

Billy, Nicola and Mr Gopal are off to India in a flying boat to solve a baffling mystery! The gum that comes from the wonderful bubblegum trees that grow in the Indian jungle has not been delivered for two months. Without this secret ingredient, there'll be no more Gopal's Best Pink Bubblegum, and even more importantly, no more Bubblegummies - the people who live in the trees and harvest the gum. It's not an easy mystery to solve - and soon the friends are involved in a bungee-jumping, tiger-trouncing, woodcutter-walloping, bubblegum-blowing adventure!

About the Author

Alexander McCall Smith is professor of Medical Law at the University of Edinburgh. He is also the author of over fifty books. These range from adult fiction to specialist titles, such as Forensic Aspects of Sleep, to a wide selection of children's books. In 1999 The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency was published. This book quickly became a bestseller and was voted one of the 'International Books of the Year and the Millennium' by the Times Literary Supplement. In America the success of the series was instant with sales exceeding two million in the USA alone. Winner of three Author of the Year awards in 2004 (British Book Awards, Booksellers' Association and Waterstone's), and Bloomsbury Publishing are very proud and excited to be re-publishing Alexander's key children's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars boys' fantasy and the parents' dream, 10 Oct 2005
By K.Shankland (High Wycombe, Bucks United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
as a parent, we struggle to interest my young sons in reading. But one day we picked up Bubblegum Tree from the local library by chance and boys did not want to part from the book even in the bath. I myself failed to understand why "Touching tiger's tail" could be so intriguing to them, nonetheless the book was a big hit and we are going to buy some more books by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for 6 year olds, 4 Oct 2006
By seeking kids books (Lancs - England) - See all my reviews
Always looking for something that i can read and enjoy with my 6yr old twins. This book has to be one of our more successful finds! I'm so pleased to find that this author has written so many kids books because i'm confident that we will now have a supply of great kids' stories for some time. We loved 'The Doghnut Ring' too. Buy this book to read and enjoy with your kids; you can't go wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read
My six year old son loved this book. AMS writes in a lovely traditional way for children, he doesn't patronise, use slang or try to be 'with it'. Read more
