Product Description

Product Description

Four girls - Mary, Bea, Meena and Atlanta - are thrown together when they are picked for very different reasons by their teacher, to form a book review club. Their discussions and reviews will be heard on radio, chaired and presented by the incredibly cool Jazz. As the girls gradually relax and talk more and more animatedly about what they think about the different books, they find they are learning from, as well as about, each other. And so they become friends Until one day Mary does the unforgivable and, having flirted outrageously with Bea's new boyfriend, makes an all-out play for him. The tender new friendship of the foursome is fractured as a result of what Mary has done. Narrated by the different characters in turn, this is fresh, contemporary and compulsive writing that every teenager will identify with, charting the insecurities and the tests of friendship that are part of growing up the world over.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Trip Down Memory Lane..., 4 Aug 2005
By Karen Stokes (Coventry, England) - See all my reviews
A book is alwys more enjoyable when you feel you can relate to the characters in some way and this is the main reason I so enjoyed reading The Bad Girls Club. Every description of what these four girls think, feel and go through at the difficult ages of 14 and 15 was like a trip down memory lane for me! It made me cringe with some memories and laugh out loud over others.

The book is an extremely perceptive and honest account of the difficulties involved in growing up and the changing relationships with family and friends.

Also, at this age, I loved to read and I know I would have really enjoyed being part of such a book club if it had been available to me.

The book is aimed at young adults and although it is a perfect read for girls of the same age as the characters, I would also recommend it to those a bit older, should you feel like remembering how you were back then and having a good laugh at yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful entertaining read for all TEENAGERS, 18 Jul 2005
By A Customer
Rhian Tracey has taken the popular contemporary concept of book clubs and given the idea a fresh approach by introducing it to the teenage market. Four teenage girls with various personalities and 'issues' are forced together to form a book club. A further innovation by the author is to feature the girls on a radio programme - Jazz's Breakfast Show to discuss the books with the DJ every month. Rhian Tracey, in her third teenage novel, cleverly weaves the experiences and disasters happening in the girls' lives with the storylines of the books chosen. The author's brilliant insight into teenage trials and tribulations make the characters come alive, and all teenagers will be able to identify with the girls. I became so involved in the book that I read it in one sitting. An exceptionally entertaining read for an teenager. If you enjoyed this you will enjoy 'When Isla Meets Luke Meets Isla' and 'Make or Break' by the same author.
