'Young adult fiction is going from strength to strength, led by authors like Catherine MacPhail... The Bookseller

Product Description

'Young adult fiction is going from strength to strength, led by authors like Catherine MacPhail' - "The Bookseller". It was as I was walking into the drama class that I remembered the girl I had bumped into and the green sweater just like mine. That was what had got Mrs Watt mixed up. She had seen the girl in the green sweater and thought it was me. That was the simple explanation. Wasn't it? Fay can't help thinking it odd that people start remarking on conversations she knows she hasn't had, or saying they have seen her when she knows she was somewhere else. But then she starts hearing muffled footsteps behind her, the flash of fair hair just like hers around the corner. Is she imagining things? This is a gripping, spooky thriller from the acclaimed story-teller Catherine MacPhail.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but Spooky!, 22 Feb 2004
By A Customer
This is the first book by Catherine McPhail that I've read, and its definitely left me wanting more! Though short, this book is full of tension - and leaves you lookng over your shoulder for another you. When people start seeing Fay, when she knows she wasn't there, she at first thinks that maybe someone is playing a trick on her. Or maybe she has a twin that her parents havn't told her about. Or maybe it's something more sinister.............................
A modern horror story, which I would reccomend to anyone who likes to be thoroughly spooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to be spooked out, this is THE book., 15 Dec 2004
By A Customer
This book is one of the most spooky I have ever read in my whole life. Very real-life and after it for the next day or two you will be looking over you're shoulder and thinking that their is someone there behind you.
This is a book you will read once and never want to read again at least not at night but it is good for that reason so I know that doesn't make sense but there you go - those are mty thoughts on the book.
This is my helpful self coming into play here - why don't you get another book by this author instead because the others have just as good a storyline but they don't spook you out as much as this one. Of course, if you've got all the other's then this is no good but I still would not buy this one - instead I would read one of the other books again unless you don't like reading books again which I can quite understand.
All the best.

3.0 out of 5 stars Here's Me With Another Review for Another Me, 13 April 2005
This is the story of a girl who is being followed and mimicked by another girl who looks identical to her. A good simple premise that should work well. Sadly though this idea has already been used in Lois Duncan's "Stranger With My Face" and Duncan's novel is far superior, so if it is the premise that attracts you dig out Duncan's novel instead.

I have read one other Catherine MacPhail book and wasn't keen on that either. It might be that at 21 I am too old for these books but I don't think so. MacPhail, for me, doesn't have enough depth in her novels. The characters are not developed enough which left me not carrying for them, the setting of the novel is not specific leading to not being able to imagine it. A problem I have with MacPhail is her interest in subplots that are quiet frankly boring and take away from the tension and the drama of the premise.

Over all I think this book had the potential to be great but it just wasn't developed enough. If I was MacPhail's editor I would recommend another couple of redrafts!

I would recommend you get this book out the library as opposed to buying it - I don't think it's worth the money.

I do not think that Catherine MacPhail necessarily intends to write for adults. I always assumed that these books were aimed at children and teenagers and think that they are... Read more
