5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful., 17 Feb 2003
A stunning fairytail for adults. I read this book without putting it down once, though i do agree it is a short story it is so beautifully written and the influence of her Grandfather can not be missed. Excellent illustration too. A must buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Man With The Dancing Eyes by Sophie Dahl, 11 Feb 2003
By A Customer
Sophie Dahl's first foray into the land of storytelling can only be described as a success. This enchanting modern day fairytale is a light hearted read which warms the heart without glossing over the realities of real life love. The flaws in the relationship between our heroine Pierre and her lover, referred to only as The Man With The Dancing Eyes, are clearly visible and yet you can't help but hope that everything will work out for them in them end. Injections of humour throughout the story had me laughing out loud and the illustrations add an essential element to this tale, each one different but inspiring. I couldn't turn then page fast enough to discover what the next one would be and i was never disappointed. This book is a must read for anyone in love with love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful! My Favourite feel good book!, 17 April 2009

Oh dear me! There are a lot of cynics out there! Ok...so it's not Shakespeare! Nor is it Roald Dahl, but then again, it's not supposed to be!
The story is short, fairy tale like, whimsical even, but in all the doom and gloom in the world this is what we need!
The romantic notion of a man with dancing eye's and the messy and quirky illustrations makes this one of my all time favourite books!
It's light hearted and a feel good read, always cheers me up when I'm blue!
Don't read it if you're looking for a piece of in depth, gripping literature, you will be disappointed, but if you want a short story that you will cherish and adore, a story that can take you to another place, all be it "fluffy and girly" (what's wrong with that?) this is the book for you!
As for Sofie Dahl having a bash at writing, why shouldn't she? She will never compete with her grandfather, then again, she hasn't tried to!
I love it! :-)

I listened to Sophie Dahl read this on Radio 4 on Valentines Day and actually really enjoyed it. It's quirky and not too contrived. Dahl has a nice way with words. Read more
