Amazon.co.uk Review
If business makes you scratch your head, enlightenment is here thanks to Bloomsbury’s heavyweight Ultimate Resource. Everything you ever wanted to know about business but were too afraid to ask is crammed into this encyclopedic, multi-faceted volume. The Ultimate Resource is a one-stop shop for practical solutions, theoretical debate and essential business information--each of its seven sections offering a vibrant take on vital business tools and techniques. In Best Practice, the world’s best-known business writers address some of the management problems and issues that are likely arise in every working life. Management Checklists and Actionlists identifies and provides answers to a range of practical business challenges while the Management Library presents executive summaries of essential business literature, distilling the ideas from key titles such as Blur and The Age of Unreason for busy executives. Business Thinkers and Management Giants profiles the gurus and pioneers whose ideas have shaped the commercial world while the lively Dictionary section presents an up-to-the-minute guide to current business terms, slang and jargon. The World Business Almanac contains statistics and facts on a range of countries and industries and finally in a comprehensive Business Information Sources section, a massive collection of contacts, books, organisations, Web sites and magazines make finding further information on everything from accounting to working abroad a walk in the park. Bloomsbury’s epic joins essentials such as BusinessThink, The Writing on the Wall and The Naked Leader in helping business out of the Dark Ages. With more knowledge, insight and big name contributors than you can shake a stick at, The Ultimate Resource is an entire management library under one dust jacket.--Iain Campbell

5.0 out of 5 stars For business research, worth its weight in gold, 15 Oct 2002
By A Customer
Will you find this book useful? If, like me, you are a business researcher, then this will save you hours of time finding relevant tools and information.

The book is organised into seven categories:
Best practice - mini HBR type articles on current business issues
Checklist/Actionlist - quick 'how to' articles on things that you may not have to do often - eg break the news re redundancy.
Management library - Reviews of almost every business book you can think of and the key ideas that they address.
Gurus - who they are and what their contribution to management theory is.
A-z - a dictionary of business terms.
World Business Almanac - containing country and sectoral info
Business Information Sources

This is an exceptionally good, generalist work. Of course, if you are an expert on HR, then some of the HR articles may be a little lightweight, but for those subjects you only need to know about on an occasional basis, its great.

So is it worth it? Absolutely. Every company should have a reference copy. But use it, don't leave it as a coffee table volume. For one thing, you'll have to reinforce the coffee table first.

5.0 out of 5 stars the Ultimate Resource (Business), 20 Dec 2002
By Mr D Rushworth (Cleckheaton, W. Yorkshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I am currently on a CIPD course and this book will be my 'bible'. It contains a snapshot of everything you need to know and because it is condensed it is very easy to absorb. There is so much in this book, when I first got it I could not put it down. It will stay on my desk and I am sure I will be dipping into it for years to come.

The world business almanac showing facts/statistics will be useful as a resource for my children studying GCSE's and at Unversity.

I challenge anyone not to find this invaluable in the work place or as a resource during business/management training. Worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars How did we manage without it?, 19 Dec 2002
By Richard Green (Saffron Walden, UK) - See all my reviews
Like all great inventions, it is hard to imagine how we managed without it. For business executives, business or management students and others who are just intellectually curious, this is a must. And when you see it you will be astonished at how competitively priced it is. Its primary virtue is that it is the definitive encyclopedia of management theory and practice. Astonishingly, no one had ever attempted to answer comprehensively the questions: Who are the business gurus and what are their unique contributions? Nor in any one volume could you find an A to Z of best business practice written by the world's best business writers.

But 'Business' does all this AND it profiles the great pioneers of business AND it gives you a handbook of current practical management, a business dictionary and a directory of information sources. As if that isn't enough, a further substantial section, the 'World Business Almanac' illuminates the international context of business, with thematic world maps and ranked indicators, followed by profiles of 150 countries, 50 US states and 24 global industries. This would constitute an encyclopedic volume on its own, providing a huge reservoir of logically organised information on the world economy and international business, designed to give you an understanding of what makes each economy and industry tick.

This massive volume has been designed, compiled, edited and manufactured with imagination combined with great skill and attention to detail.
