4.0 out of 5 stars The book that made me notice Monty Don as a garden writer, 5 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This was the first of Monty Don's books that I have read. Is is assembled from his previous articles in the Observer magazine, and on the strength of this, I became a regular subsrciber to that newspaper. The main strength of the book is that it not only imparts useful information horticulturally, but also tells you just what is happening in the Don garden. So you can feel a part of the developments there, warts and all. There are also beautiful photos, and although their subjects are flowers and plants, not the garden, and some are almost abstract, they are consistent with the feeling engendered by the text of the book. It is almost like reading a garden diary. Delightful.
