5.0 out of 5 stars The most honest biography you'll ever read!, 4 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Paul Merson is known as a great footballer and an even greater drinker. Of course, he battled and beat his alcohol addiction - very publicly - years ago. 'Rock Bottom' is a very honest report on the hell he went through to become, once again, the fantastic footballer everyone - including himself - used to know. Merson describes the pain he felt when he went to rehab, being apart from his children and wife and not being sure whether he was allowed to ever play football again. He writes in simple language - he's never claimed to be a writer after all - but in an extremely open way. He talks about the pit-falls of drinks and drugs, without trying to preach to the reader, unlike Tony Adams for example did in his biography. Very readable indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just a book about football, 9 Jul 2000
By A Customer
This book is not just about football. It is a book that anybody who has gone through the same thing could write, but not be recognised as they are not famous. This book proves just how much footballers are just regular people, vulnerable and just as exposed and tempted by drink and drugs as the next person. If you don't feel shocked and sorry for this man after reading this very frank autobiography, then you are not human. Every one should read a book like this to understand the feelings that so many people go through all the time.
