5.0 out of 5 stars It's hilarious!, 24 Jun 2000

This review is from: A Bad Day for Ali Baba (Paperback)
Ever thought how, although they are quite entertaining, 'The Arabian Nights' are just too old? Well, here's your answer! In 'A Bad Day For Ali Baba', one of the most famous of the 'Nights' is brought back in a way you might not have thought possible for such a 'used' story. Craig Shaw Gardner brings in his own very funny style of writing, but cleverly still manages to keep all the magic. What's more, he even includes some of the other 'Arabian Nights' characters, such as Aladdin, resulting in even more humour and fantasy. The plot flows brilliantly, and never do you get the feeling that you are going over well-trodden ways, as it is very original. Magic is added in such a way that it adds to the humour, for example in the case of a talking cave whose uncle is the famous gold-containing cavern. If anything, an improvement on the original. I would reckon that anyone that is 12 or up would be able to enjoy this; anyone under might struggle with the length. Be warned however, the story doesn't finish at the end of the actual book, you have to buy the sequel! Apart from that, well reccommended. Get It!
