5.0 out of 5 stars Taut, tense story with good mix of human, politics and hardware, 31 Oct 2009

This review is from: Storm Dragon (Paperback)
Synopsis: China is rift by a civil war, and it is getting hotter when the Nationalists (Taiwan) become involved as well. USS Cunningham, DDG-79, a stealth destroyer commanded by Captain Amanda Garrett, is sent on a task to neutralize specific dangers (notice how I am trying hard not to give away the storyline too specifically!)

The excellent second instalment in the Garrett saga, of wich there are now four: Chhosers of the Slain, this one (published in the USA under the title Sea strike!), Sea Fighter and Target Lock. An taut, tense story, with a long drawn-out high-tension finish and just the right mixture of hardware and humans. Futuristic, with systems that aren't quite there yet, but very convincing on both the naval and the aerial front. Well-drawn people, too, with good dialogue and relationships - a solid series, and I hope Cobb will continue producing more in this vein. I, for one, will be buying them as soon as they come out!
