2.0 out of 5 stars An interesting subject but disappointing., 6 Jun 2006

This review is from: Loving Che (Paperback)
A young woman, now living in Miami, was brought from Cuba by her grandfather during the revolution.
She has spent her childhood with no knowledge of her parents or her background. As she becomes old enough to travel she visits Cuba in search of her past, but her search is fruitless.
Unexpectedly a package of letters and photos arrives, possibly prompted by her travels. This package reveals much of the life of the narrator's mother, Theressa, an artist in Cuba in the 1950's who has a passionate affair with the infamous Che Guevara. Is the narrator Che's daughter?
I'm afraid I did not enjoy this book. Although I favour historical fiction, I found it awkward to read and overly poetic. The letters seemed disconnected and I would have liked more insight into the character of Che Guevara.
Being the only review to date, I feel guilty only awarding this book 2 stars, so I will mention that on the Amazon.com site, it has been reviewed 9 times and awarded an average of 4 stars (although others also gave it 2 stars).
