Sitting Practice - you may change, but your love doesn't, 26 Feb 2005
Three can be a crowd in any relationship.. affable, affectionate, loved by women, Ross falls madly in love with virgin and clergyman's daughter Iliana... and she returns his feelings with equal vigour. But Ross has a twin sister, Bonnie... a single mother, the yang to his ying... twins yet his polar opposite. She is moody, demanding and jealous. Ross is a surrogate father to her son Bryce who adores him. And to further complicate matters, Iliana also has a dependance, not just on Ross... but on her wheelchair. Three weeks into their marriage, Ross takes his eyes off the wheel for a split second... and their life changes. Iliana copes admirably with her paralysis, stoic, strong and still cheerful. Bonnie is still moody. Ross is still loveable, yet how can he overcome his guilt, especially with his young bride so brave? Read how the characters change their lives in order to adapt to their new circumstances, the obstacles they face, through trauma and their own inner turmoils... Iliana, escaping evangelical preaching... Ross, turning to Budhhism to cope, Bonnie, eternally searching for love... can their relationships survive? Beautifully written, the writing is intelligent and flowing. The character studies are intriguing, the different personalities interacting with interest. I could not put it down... The subject matter may sound harrowing but it is written with compassion and humour, yet without sentimentality and slush. You won't be disappointed...
