Product Description

Product Description

This is a candid commentary on the state of the horse racing industry today. The book takes a look at what owners, trainers, jockeys and bookmakers are up to; and what is going on behind closed stable doors. Charlie Brooks is a former racehorse trainer, and here he takes the lid off the racing world. He talks openly about who is winning and losing in a sport riven by factional interests. It also includes the full story of why he was arrested in connection with race-fixing allegations and his subsequent clearance.

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but not well written, 31 Dec 2001
By A Customer
I would be lying if I said I hated this book - I didn't, but I found it very difficult to read. The writer has chosen to arrange the book in topics rather than strict chronilogical order, and therefore jumps from one time to another, which was confusing. I also didn't find it as revealing as it had promised to be, it was just full of (largely) unfunny anecdotes and name-dropping. I finished the book feeling as if it wasn't quite complete, as if there had to be more to his story.

A bit disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amusing and informative revelations of ex-trainer, 22 Jun 2001
By A Customer
Old Etonian Charlie Brooks charts his life from school to the top of the racing ranks and provides a surprisingly entertaining and informative read which belies his Hooray Henry image.
