Review
'Fondness for cliche is offset by the liveliness of Kelly's characterisation and the humour with which she describes her trio of lovelorn females' The Times 'A thoroughly enjoyable read that will hook you from the first page to the very last. Kelly is definitely a modern literary star, with the skill to create a fluid and enthralling scenario' Day or Night (New Zealand) 'A delightfully readable story' Southland Times (NZ) 'Curl up and enjoy!' Hawkes Bay Today (NZ)

Product Description
A lot can happen in a year - and Evie, Cara and Olivia are about to find out just how much... Evie is a hopeless romantic who’s never had a chance to do her own thing, and deep down she knows that marrying Simon isn’t going to help. Her sister Cara’s a walking disaster when it comes to relationships, and she’s not much better in the workplace either. And her best friend Olivia can’t quite bring herself to admit that she’s married to the wrong man - after all, what would she do without him? When they go home for Christmas, Evie’s father announces that he’s getting remarried. That shouldn’t change anything - but then they don’t know who they’re going to meet at the wedding...

2.0 out of 5 stars not her best work, 18 Feb 2004
By A Customer
In this book, we have three main characters, Evie, Cara and Olivia. Evie and Olivia have been friends since childhood, Cara is Evie's youngers sister. Essentially, this book covers an 18-month period in their lives where they sort out their messed up (for various reasons) home- and love-lives.
IMHO, the thing which distinguishes Chick-lit from conventional romance novels is that the heroines are fallible, everyday girls, working for a living, not wealthy supermodels falling in love with dashing handsome royalty. However, though we do hear that Evie is rather short (read "dumpy" I guess), apart from that all these women are impossibly beautiful (although, in true romance novel form, they do not realise it), very successful, and when they (Evie and Cara) start to come to the conclusion that their current situation may not be all that it could be, along comes the handsome guy (Max and Evan), who puts up with all manner of irrational behaviour, to sweep them off their feet. Olivia's situation is resolved somewhat differently, but again, unrealistically; after years of being a doormat a most unlikely career change falls into her lap and she immediately sorts out her homelife, with no bother at all.
I won't give up on Cathy Kelly totally, some of her other books were really great. But, maybe a wee bit more realism or else it'll be harder and harder to distinguish her novels from the swashbucking romances Evie dreams about.

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable, 17 May 2005
I have read a few Cathy Kelly novels and have always found them light enjoyable reading to take your mind off cleaning up, going to work and the like. There are not social comments nor profound stories but what Kelly does so well is creating interesting characters who infuriate, make you laugh and make you root for them all at the same time. Never too late is not the best book Kelly has ever written but you do certainly root for all the characters and wish them all well. I must say though does Kelly have a formula for each of her books as they do all plod along in a similar fashion. But as chick lit goes she is better than most of her contempories. I would recommend this book for a stressed out woman or a holiday novel.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hated the characters
Evie was bossy, shrieky and very, very immature. Olivia was a tired old pushover and i can't believe Cathy Kelly wasted all her energy on this dreadful plot! Read more

Her best yet. I didn't want it to end and rate her writing alongside that of Maeve Binchy and Patricia Scanlan.
