Product Description

Product Description
Deputy Chief Constable Bob Skinner has a lot on his plate. One of the world’s most ruthless terrorists is on his way to Edinburgh with only one thing on his mind: the forthcoming conference of world Heads of Government. If Skinner doesn't pick up his trail fast, he could have a global disaster in his backyard. While all eyes are focused on the terrorist threat, a terminally ill woman is found dead - an apparent suicide. But the marks of an assisted death are discovered and this seemingly random death soon proves to be the beginning of an ominous pattern. For Skinner, the desperate race to find a heartless terrorist mixes uneasily with the search for a mercy killer- a search which takes on a poignant personal significance. And it's not long before Skinner himself will be staring death straight in the eye...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, when's the next one published?, 7 April 2000
By A Customer
The latest Skinner mystery is excellent, with the usual good balance between the crime, or crimes in hand and the personal lives of the police officers. The underlying story that carries on from the rest of the series does not cause a problem if this is the first one that you read - but I think it would make you want to read the others. Jardine's accurate descriptions of Edinburgh make me feel like I'm back there and not in the middle of continental Europe (and he mentioned Luxembourg again!) The only critiscism I would have is that I just couldn't put the book down, it took me a day to read it, and I've got a long wait until the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent plot - some humour - really tense !!, 14 Dec 1999
By scarpetta1@aol.com (Ferndown, Dorset, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gallery Whispers (Paperback)
The book is excellent - there are several stories linked together, and these are interwoven with great skill. The main character (Skinner) is pivotal, but is not dominating - others are allowed to come to the fore. The tension builds steadily through the book and the plot is very believable. I really enjoyed this (my first Jardine book) and I will now be searching out the others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent characterisations - a good read!, 29 Jan 2001
By A Customer
The latest in Jardine's series about the Edinburgh Deputy Chief Constable, Bob Skinner. The author richly draws on Edinburgh and surrounds, and includes extensive characterisation of Skinner, his family, his colleagues and others in the story. Certain knowledge is assumed, and although it doesn't detract from the story, I recommend new readers start with the first in the series, Skinner's Rules. A worthy addition to Peter Lovesey (Bath) and David Williams (Wales) who use a particular part of the UK to enhance their whodunnits.
