If you are mad about the TV series you will probably fall in love with Patricia Routledge's character all over again. The option not to dramatise, but to "narrate" the stories is not - as frequently happens - a sign of a lesser effort. A superb actress, here and there rising above her lines, is always a joy, so go out and get it and treat yourself to a fine audiobook. If you don't surrender to its charms, I'll be happy to read your opinion...

This is the book on which the TV series was based, but has more information about the characters as most books do. Patricia Routledge is at her best reading the book and doing the different character voices. There are quite a few very good mysteries in the book and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a good, clean who-dun-it.
