5.0 out of 5 stars Suspense at Its bestest, 9 Oct 2000
By A Customer
From the first minute Simone goes missing, the reader is pulled into the small, slightly off world of Fawcet Green. The reader is introduced to all its amazing little quirks systematically household by household. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat whilst you travel through the suspicions of Barnaby throughout the case. Look forward to a surprise ending to this book, one of Caroline Grahams best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Faithful Unto Death, 9 Oct 2007
By Callisto (Exmouth England) - See all my reviews
The royatlifetide review, was OTT, although I have not read this particular story, I have seen the TV adaptations, although most episodes were written for TV. There is no logic also, in the phrase about the Social Skills Of A Flat Groundhog.' He surely cannot mix with 'Flat Groundhogs, ' or understand their language, unless he is a real life Dr Dolittle.

His attention span must be limited, if the 150 pges too long, is to be believed.

The series on T.V. is superior to many other thriller series. D.I. Barnaby, is dry rather than grumpy, and Sergeant Troy, one of the better assistants.

2.0 out of 5 stars Whodunnit? Who cares?, 4 Jul 2000
By R. Dalgleish "Exiled in London" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I must start by saying that I had high expectations of this novel. I had heard great things about the series, and in fairness, it is well written. The plot is plausible, but that is the end of the good points so far as I was concerned.

The book is only about 150 pages too long. It could be worse. But I have to say that by the time you find out 'whodunnit', if you have any intelligence, you will have worked it out anyway, and in any case, you are so bored by the cardboard cut-out characters that you don't care anymore.

All of this would perhaps be bearable were it not that the main character's sidekick has the social skills of a flat groundhog, the emotional maturity of a five year old and is clearly written to irritate the reader - one thing achieved with consummate skill; but one has to wonders - WHY?

Not my favourite read of the year.
