Product Description

Product Description

From humble beginnings in a dirt-poor mining town in Northern Canada, Shania Twain has become one of the most successful female solo artists of all time. At the age of eight her mother was taking her to sing in lumberjack bars and after-hours clubs; she lives now in a secluded Swiss mansion with her record producer husband and is worth over $100 million. Hits such as "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" and "That Don't Impress Me Much" ensured that her third album, "Come on Over", became the best-selling album in country music history. Robin Eggar has talked to close friends, family, and business associates to build a rounded portrait of the woman from the forests of Canada.

From the Author

The author, Robin Eggar. author@ shaniatwainbiography.com ,

A Cinderella for the 21st century

Even though I have spent the past year researching and writing about Shania Twain I sometimes still find it hard to reconcile the glamorous superstar with Eilleen, the gap toothed munchkin blessed with a voice from God, who grew up in the forests of Northern Canada. In writing any biography the story’s the thing and Shania had that in spades… dysfunctional family, extreme poverty, devastating tragedy, ambition and eventually triumph.

I was fortunate to have interviewed Shania twice before I started the book which gave me insight into what really drives her. There have been other books on her but, for the moment, this is the most comprehensive. I interviewed over 90 people – some of whom Shania herself put me in contact with - ranging from family members and teachers to school friends, colleagues, boyfriends, and musicians. I have tried to place Shania in the context of both her time and her place. It is not just about her for I also found out about her husband record producer "Mutt" Lange, one of the great enigmas of the record business. On my website are some brief excerpts, extra pictures that do not appear in the book plus some information on how and why I wrote the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Humdinger, Detailed, Definitive, Essential......, 1 Nov 2001
By A Customer
I make no bones about this, I am a huge fan of Shania but this book will appeal to all who have even a passing interest in this enigmatic performer and her music, it even helps fathom the enigma of R J Mutt Lange, reclusive record producer, music business mogul and Shania's husband.

It has been written with compassion and also amazing attention to detail, proof of in-depth research and 100's of interviews with people that have known Shania many years, some since birth.

Read this book you will not be short-changed or disappionted, even Shania approved of the project and gave the author names of folks he should speak to in her home town, and understand that this lady does not suffer fools gladly, so any endorsement by Shania is all the endorsement that should be needed.

Thoroughly and wholeheartedly recommended, I loved the attention to detail and it is obvious from the writing that the author has a fascination for Shania and her "rags to riches" life. I really cannot think of anything negative to say so, go ahead buy the book, read, digest and above all enjoy!

I was drawn to this because I enjoyed Robin Eggar's biography of Tom Jones, and this didn't disappoint me. Lots of fascinating insights, gossip and a really good read.
