Product Description

Product Description

David Batty has been one of the most consistent midfielders in the English game for nearly 15 years. In this revealing and outspoken autobiography, he talks about his difficult relationship with Howard Wilkinson, his battle to save his career after serious injury, his notorious onfield punch-up with team-mate Graeme Le Saux, and how he once took some of the Leeds players to work on the bins during the off-season. Down to earth and packed with entertaining and hilarious anecdotes, David Batty's story will surprise anyone who thought they knew him.

About the Author

David Batty made his league debut for Leeds United in 1987 at the age of 18, and went on to play 211 games for the club, winning the league championship in 1992, before moving on to Blackburn Rovers in 1993. He helped Blackburn to the title in 1995 and then went to Newcastle United in 1996. In 1998 he moved back to Leeds. He has won 42 England caps since 1991.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brialliant!, 25 Aug 2001
Being an avid Leeds fan i couldn't resist purchasing this book to read about the inside life of one of our greatest sons. "Batts" Tells his story in the same manner as he plays his football, which gives an eye opening insight into his life as a youngster in Leeds to a full England International. The humorous tales of kangaroo courts as a young apprentice at Leeds and his escapades with his team mates throughout his years as a professional footballer which took him from Leeds to Blackburn and from there to Newcastle before returning to his hometown club of Leeds. He also writes about his life outside of football. His love for his family and motorbikes! Plus his feelings on his move from Leeds, his infamous penalty miss and the injury that could have cost him his life. This book kept me hooked for hours and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it made me laugh and see a different side to one of England's finest players in the modern game.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner., 3 Jan 2002
I'm not really into reading but as I passed a book shop and discovered David Batty was signing copies of his book, i felt the need to meet him as a Leeds fan, I also felt obliged to buy a book. I'm glad I did I couldn't put it down from start to finish. It includes stories of his childhood growing up in Leeds, to the late night pranks with Vinny Jones, his confrontations with managers & his England career, interests outside football and career threatening injuries. I recommend this book to any Leeds fan or football fan in general, even if reading a book normally seems like hard work to u. Give it a Go.

4.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant insight into the footballing world., 8 Nov 2001
By A Customer
A book I could not put down, David shares his life from the first stages of his life until the present day. David talks about how his dad wrote about each performance he made on the field criticising him and hailing him as one of the best midfielders in the country when in his prime.
5 stars and a book any genuine Leeds Utd fan would love to read.
