Product Description

Product Description
Spencer Grant is physically and emotionally scarred. An outsider, he often sits for hours in bars just to avoid being alone - and to tell his story to someone who won't remember it the next morning. But last night he met Valerie and something about her melted his isolation. Then she doesn't turn up for work and he finds her home abandoned, with a strange message fixed to the wall. Before he has time to wonder who or what Valerie is, the house is hit by an explosion. Spencer escapes, only to find himself on the run - not only from his past but also from the conspiracy he has unwittingly stumbled on.

4.0 out of 5 stars better than the hype, 7 Jun 2006
By Mr. David Halliday (Ilkeston Derbyshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
to look at the amount of reviews & overall scores you'd think that mr.koontz never misses,in fairness this is the case with most popular writers but too often its hype.not so with this one, the DEA do indeed have the power described in this novel.
the way the protagonists lives are ripped out from under them is chillingly believable and this helps to rack up the tension. there is fine attention to detail that far from slowing things down simply adds to the reality of the story, though its the collection of characters here that keep things on the boil, even in his weakest efforts koonts' ability to paint a believable psychopath is always top notch and that's especially true here.
If you're new to his works and have only read the last few of his works you may have been wondering what all the fuss was about, well add this beauty to your basket & wonder no more,he's at the top of his game here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Koontz classic, but still a good read, 31 Jul 1999
By A Customer
Despite the intriguing title, Dark Rivers of the Heart definitely isn't one of Dean Koontz's best. There is too much lingering around on technological subjects to give it 'classic' status. However, the way the plot is slowly revealed keeps you interested, but there isn't much longetivity. Most Koontz books ground themselves on realism, and, while this book does leave you wondering about what's up there, you get the feeling that Koontz sometimes goes too far. If you're a fan of Koontz (who isn't?) then read it. If you're a Koontz newcomer, try something else, then come back to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is absolutely the best book I have ever read., 26 Nov 2000
Dean Koontz intermingles Big Brother paranoia, modern technology and true love into a book that has to be read to be beleived. Lonely Spencer briefly meets an amazing woman and for the first half of the book discovers why the authorities want her dead. Then they meet and the rest of the book absolutely flies. It is hard to put into words how spiritual, how exciting, how horrific this story is, but it is a book I have read at leat half a dozen times now and it still stuns me. You HAVE to read this book.
