Product Description

Product Description

As head of Edinburgh's CID, Detective Chief Superintendent Bob Skinner has seen it all... but even he is shocked by the savagely mutilated corpse discovered in a dark alleyway. The victim is identified as a successful young lawyer, and the motive for the brutal death remains a mystery. Then further seemingly random killings in the city begin to suggest a vicious serial killer is on the rampage. But when the lawyer's fiancee is also murdered, Skinner realises that someone is in deadly earnest. What eventually emerges is an elaborate smokescreen shrouding a deep-rooted and intricate conspiracy. Now, whatever the danger to himself, Skinner is determined that in Edinburgh, at least, folk will abide by his rules.

About the Author
Quintin Jardine took to crime writing both naturally and with relief. Both series of books by Quintin Jardine are available from Headline: the Bob Skinner novels, and the equally praised but very different, Oz Blackstone series. He is also about to embark on a thrilling new series, starring Oz`s tough-talking ex, Primavera Phillips. Quintin Jardine is married with four adult kids and divides his time between Scotland and Spain.

5.0 out of 5 stars For anyone who loves a good crime story, 18 Sep 2001
Quintine Jardine starts to build the rich character of Bob Skinner from the start, capturing the quintessence of both Edinburgh and a crime investigation. The first of eleven books in the series. You'll pick it up and not put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great discovery in my opinion, 23 Oct 2005
By fivestarfrankie (chippenham, wiltshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Of modern writers I rate Ian Rankin, Ruth Rendal, Reginald Hill, Peter Robinson and Peter Lovesey.

Spotted a pattern there ?

This is the first Skinner book I've read and you can be sure it won't be the last !

To fans of the five writers named above you can buy this book with TOTAL confidence

5.0 out of 5 stars If you enjoy crime fiction this book is for you!, 10 Oct 1999
By A Customer
As I know and love Edinburgh and enjoy reading crime fiction, a friend recommended I begin to read the 'Skinner' books. To enjoy these books you must read them in sequence starting with Skinners Rules.

Quintin Jardine is by far the best author of crime fiction I have ever read and cannot understand why his books are so high up the 'charts'. This book is a great read and keeps you in suspense right to the last page.

Enjoy!

PS: I would like to take this opportunity to apologise to my family, but really I can't put Jardine's books down, anyway you are able to fend for yourselves for a few days whilst I finish my next 'Skinner book'!!!
