Synopsis

4th book from Rowland and one of the best. Difficult to put down. Well writen story that gives a great historical input and will appeal to readers of James Clavel's Shogun and Gai-jin.

Incest, rape, madman, madwoman, love, sex, depravities, more depravities, murder, suicide, lust! in vain, lust! fulfilled, concubines and lots of them, cruelty, power struggles, toyboys, social injustice and samurai women with swords yay. You name it, this novel's got it. And the setting being in Japan 1690, at the very top of society, you just KNOW the next "orf with his head!" is waiting round the corner if you fail.
I wonder how they managed to survive the pressure.

The previous novels in the series are three stars mostly. A bit more than readable (and I have to because I bought the lot). But this one had something extra.
