Product Description

Synopsis Dec hasn't seen his mother for six years. Having moved into a new home with his father, Dec rarely visits the old family home, until one day he makes a horrific discovery there - a man crushed to death in the hall. Was it an accident or is it more than a coincidence that Dec recognizes the would-be thief? Suddenly the house is alive with memories, prompting Dec to investigate the past and piece together the puzzle which will reveal the elusive truth about his mother's disappearance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping mystery and psychological study, great for young teens. , 4 Dec 2007
Declan Steeple is a sixteen-year-old who has it all, or so it would seem. Top of the class at school, dreams of becoming an architect, a loyal and wise best friend, an adoring little sister, a stepmother who keeps her distance, and an independently wealthy father.

Then one day Dec hitches a ride home from school with the driver of a water-haulage truck, setting in motion a chain of events that exposes the not-so-perfect underbelly of his perfect life.

This is a beautifully written novel which combines a suspenseful mystery with an intriguing family drama about secrets. The author can make your skin tingle with unease in the dark mansion, or laugh at the witty, realistic banter of Declan's school friends. It was bought as a present for my son (12)and he found it unputdownable.
