Synopsis On an extended visit to her cousins in London, Lizzie's passion for plants and trees is fuelled by visits to the newly opened Kew Gardens. Like her elder cousin, who wants to defy her middle-class upbringing and become a nurse, Lizzie has ambition and the will to go against the conventions of her Victorian peers. She wants to be a gardener, and the first step towards her dream is to plant a walnut in the garden of 6 Chelsea Walk.


About the Author

Author biography Adele Geras was born in Jerusalem in 1944. Her first book appeared in 1976 and since then she has published over 80 titles for children and young adults. Her latest novel for teenagers, Troy was shortlisted for the Whitbread Children's Book Award 2000 and the Carnegie Medal 2001.

Lizzie's Wish is about a girl who has a stepdad. It is set in Florence Nightengale's period and Lizzie, whilst her mum is pregnant, as to go to live her auntie, uncle and cousins' house, where all of her family are living, including her uncle who has been in the war and is very grumpy. I loved this book because it was very sad in points, but it ends well. The book is written very well and I didn't want to stop reading it, but it had to end.

A Kid's Review
lizzie is sent by her miserable step father to london while her mother is pregnant, when her mothers letters upbruptly stop, she must find out why.

I really enjoyed this book, It was exciting, well written, even though the language as a bit modern, and fast paced, it was an excellent addition the historical house series.
